Get More Referrals (1) – Suggestion #5
In this series of postings, I will add more information and tips or suggestions to the 78 Way To Get Referrals posting!
This posting will deal with suggestion #5 which is “Write a blog”! (For a list of Top 10 Free Blogging Sites ).
These series will deal mainly with a “business type” blog, (where you post information about the site your promoting and only share your personal experience with the site) not a “personal blog” (where you post about a variety of different things in your life and maybe have your referral banner and few posting about the site that you are promoting!
- Don’t expect to be a successful blog that get you referrals with one or even a few postings! It takes more that just writing one post every now and again! It takes a serious committment to posting fresh and updated content to your blog regularly!
- Avoid having what I call “vanity gadgets” on your site! If you use a “statcounter” on your blog, I suggest that you make your statcounter, an invisible one! Do you really want your competition to know how popular (or in the majority of case, unpopular your site )is? If your site is popular, it a common tactic for your competition to research where you have your backlinks (links back to your site) and this information to add to their own backlinks! Another common mistake is to add gimmicks like “falling hearts, leaves etc” to a blog!
- Your main focus of your blog is to get their attention, keep their attention and encourage them to sign up! Since the top part (generally top half) of your blog is where your visitors will see when then come from a search, this is where you must get their attention, encourage them to read on and sign up under your referral link
- Another common mistake that I see and what for you to avoid is to have your complete referral URL as a link!
Let use a fictional referral link as example….http://cashcrate.com/xxo12xx !
There are two main reason that I suggest that you not to do this…(1) What going to stop someone from directly copying your referral link and pasting it into a search bar, and removing the referral code before entering? By doing this…http://cashcrate.com they basically sign up unreferred (not as your referral!)
(2) Your referral URL is a great place to use a keyword…
(here is an example of a “keyword link”) Make Extra Money!
Doesn’t that look better? Plus search engine generally will associate your keyword with the link! - Another common mistake is not to proofread your posting before publishing! Whenever I come across a blog, that is not written in proper English and or has a lot of spelling mistakes, the first thought in my head is “very unprofessional“! Avoid common mistakes like using “i would like” (the proper way is “I would like” and other common errors. If English was not your strong subject in school, have someone who is, proofread your posting! Really avoid using “text talk” in your posting, “text talk” is great on your cellphone or in private messages especially with someone who is familiar with “text talk” but remember a majority of your blog visitors will not!
